UKRAINE's military intelligence has claimed responsibility for setting fire to the Russian missile ship Serpukhov, which was docked off Kaliningrad in the Baltic, reports the Kiev Independent.

In a Telegram post, the agency reported that the fire had "disabled" the ship, causing significant damage to its communication and automation systems.

They also shared a video showing the fire erupting on board the vessel.

A source from Ukraine's military intelligence confirmed to the Kiev Independent that their agents carried out the attack, marking the first such incident targeting Russian naval assets in the Baltic Sea.

In recent months, Ukraine has escalated its attacks on Russia's Black Sea Fleet assets in occupied Crimea, successfully damaging several ships and prompting the redeployment of some Russian vessels to safer locations.

Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for Ukraine's navy, disclosed on March 30 that Russia had withdrawn nearly all major ships from Crimean ports in response to these attacks.

According to the Russian Navy's website, the Serpukhov is a Buyan-M missile corvette, measuring 74 metres (242 feet) in length.

Separately, Russian authorities reported that the ice navigation vessel Katerina Velikaya caught fire during repairs at the Dalzavod shipyard in Vladivostok on April 8, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.
